The Character of God

Dear Friends,

There are times when events happen that makes us increasingly aware of ourselves, often negatively. We become ill, and aware of the pains, or the pain of those near to us. We become unemployed and we become aware of the economics and the length of days in front of us. We feel lonely. We feel angry or hurt by actions or words, and each event takes us back to become more aware of ourselves, and the challenges we face.

On Sunday we will be looking at the character of God that is available to us. Not a God who we have to keep proving ourselves to for every circumstance- for that is just tiring and debilitating. We come to a God who desires, and everything in him seeks to say 'Yes' to us, (2 Corinthians 1), in all we need, ask or desire in him. Yet, too often, ask people about what they think the Christian life is like, and its all about fear, judgement, hell and sin. Its about what we cant do, or fail to do. It becomes restrictive rather than liberating, and in which the challenges of life provide yet another hardness to living.

This Sunday, we celebrate a God who likes to say 'yes', to who I am and to my living. My living is not without its challenges, and times of falling short, but the character of God, the one that presented himself to the cross of Calvary, is the one I need to remember most.

God bless you.

What should I expect when I visit the church?

You will receive a very warm welcome particularly from our Welcome Team who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go. We have a time of worship with congregational singing and items from our musical sections. We have periods of reflection, when we pray and read the Bible, and our Bible message is brought to us by one of our officer team.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service where there is plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

What happens to the kids at church?

We have a great programme for the kids at Regent Hall for:

Explorers (4-7 years)
Kids Zone (8-10 years)

We also have an active youth group, including Pulse - a Sunday session learning about faith, as well as regularly getting together for worship and just meeting up socially and for sports.

For more information about what happens in the children's and youth work please visit the relevant age groups for you under church life.

Is there a dress code?

Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes. Our corps officers (Church leaders) and Salvationists do wear Salvation Army uniform to be visible in our ministry and witness.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all! You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
